We recently chatted to the team from Banquets at the Bower, a stunning DIY wedding venue for couples who are looking for a unique and beautiful wedding experience. The Bower is located in Broulee, a town known as the ‘village by the sea’, nestled between two surfing beaches. The area is a popular walking destination, with a nature reserve dedicated to preserving the local flora and fauna. All in all, this wedding site is a stunning choice for couples who love the serenity of the outdoors.
Conveniently located two hours from Canberra and four hours from Sydney, Banquets at The Bower is a fabulous choice for those looking to get out of town for their wedding.
Here’s what we chatted to Mark and Sue, owners of Banquets at the Bower about. Happy reading,
The wedBooker Team xo
1. Mark and Sue, would you mind telling us a little about your beautiful venue Banquets at The Bower?
Having built and operated our boutique accommodation business over the past couple of decades we previously specialised in providing romantic getaways for wedding proposals, honeymoons, babymoons, anniversaries & significant birthday celebrations in our superbly private “Bower” accommodation villas.
Over that time, we’d received regular requests to host weddings of all sizes from small intimate weddings celebrated for the bride, groom and witnesses and an inner circle of family & friends. Smaller weddings were fine, but up until recently, we were unable to cater for the larger weddings. Eventually, since we have ample space on our 100 acre bushland property, we decided in 2017 to prepare an area to cater for the larger DIY marquee weddings for up to 150 guests.
The venue also incorporates a dedicated ceremony area with an elevated platform rising above a grassy area for guests, with a driftwood arch , signing table for “tying the knot”. Alternatively, within close proximity is a selection of beach reserves, ocean lookouts and rock formations that brides have chosen to conduct the ceremony or for stunning photo locations.
2. What sort of wedding suits Banquets at The Bower?
The Bower is suited to bridal couples who wish to style their own wedding and let their personalities shine through in the planning of a totally personalised wedding. We offer the proverbial “blank canvas” on which our brides are able to develop the them of their coast bushland wedding.
3. Could you provide a few examples of how couples have best utilised your spectacular space?
A spacious landscaped area with an inter-connected lagoon and pond surrounded by natural bushland is divided into level grass outdoor rooms that allow for a choice of marquees. Previous brides have chosen everything from giant Scandinavian TiPi’s, clear wall and/or roof pavilions, to Californian carnival marquees. In particular, the khaki coloured giant TiPi’s blend incredibly well with the surrounding native forest landscape. Some couples have utilised one the Bowers to hold a ceremony for a supremely intimate wedding [or even the occasional elopement], others have held the ceremony on 1 of our many beach or ocean headland reserves and hosted the reception at our venue. Conversely, some have held the marriage ceremony at our venue and taken the guests to a favourite eatery nearby.
For couples who are [understandably] keen to keep on budget, Banquets can provide a list of the most suitable suppliers [some of which may be flying “under the radar”] to suit your needs and budget. These would include a range of guest accommodation options, caterers, transport, photographers, celebrants and wedding coordinators, who can assist you in bringing your day together.
4. You offer accommodation also, what does this include and for how many?
The Bower can optionally provide options for your guests ranging from luxury accommodation right thru to glamping sites and a funky retro style American Airstream travel trailer for a couple.
- 4 x Luxury “Bower” accommodation single king bedroom villas include spa baths, wood fireplaces and a fully equipped kitchen.
- 1 x luxury “Bower” 2 king bedroom villa include 2 king bedrooms for 2-4 adults, a spa bath, wood fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. This is very popular for bridal preparation on the day of the wedding.
- 1 x Airstream travel trailer which accommodates a couple
- 3 x powered glamping sites and several unpowered glamping sites
- In addition, we can recommend a choice of local accommodation options, ranging from lodge style accommodation tourist parks on the beach through to the complete spectrum of holiday rental accommodation houses. Also, we can recommend a choice of different transport options for guests to utilise prior to and following the reception, should they choose.
5. What in your opinion is the best thing about getting married on the South Coast?
The South Coast is fast becoming the ultimate Destination for couples to “tie the knot”. Boasting incredible beauty, picturesque surrounds and utter perfection for couples to say “I do”, the South Coast hosts ideal locations for destination weddings.
The South Coast climate is surprisingly mild for most of the year. Narooma for example, reportedly has the second most temperate climate in the world. Summer is warm without getting too hot, with a highest temperature for the warmest months usually in the range of 29-32°C. The coldest months are pleasantly mild with the average highest temperature in winter being 17.5°C.
In January, the South Coast usually has sunny days, but often accompanied by storms in the afternoon. However, February thru til April May is generally dry and quite warm with sunny days along with warmer ocean currents to make swimming in these months even more enjoyable that the traditional summer holiday period.
Our venues and ceremony locations offer stunningly pure and clean beaches, rustic and secluded bush settings and chic and elegant country. We believe the South Coast offers three main wedding themes; beach, bush and country. With the flexibility to create your dream wedding, we know couples can have it all on the South Coast.
