Destination weddings are on the rise. Whether couples are getting married a few hours from home, interstate or overseas, more and more couples seem to be braving the idea of a wedding away from home. But how does one go about planning their wedding away from home, with distance between themselves and the venue? We had a chat to some good friends of ours, James and Kate, to ask them about their experience of planning a wedding in Puglia, Italy. The long and short of it was, they thoroughly enjoyed planning their wedding, and had a ball on their big day. Here’s a few tips from our chat with James and Kate, about planning a destination wedding.

Chatting with James and Kate…
Where did you get married, and why did you choose this location?
We got married at Masseria San Nicola which is just outside a small town called Monopoli in the Puglian region of Italy. We chose this location mainly because of James’ Italian roots but also because we had visited Puglia a number of times and fell in love with it.
If you could give couples one tip about choosing their wedding venue, what would it be?
Choose a venue that has meaning to you both, makes it so much more special!
Did you enjoy planning your wedding? Did you find anything about the process stressful?
I did actually! We did have some help from a local wedding planner though…Francesca from the Italian wedding event helped us along the way. There’s always a few bumps through the process but Francesca managed to take a lot of the stress away from us.
How did you enjoy your wedding events – did they live up to your hopes and dreams?
They really did! It was a dream! You can’t go wrong with food and drink in Italy which was important to us. Also having all our closest family and friends in a location overseas made it special. The vibe was really buzzing!
What would be your one piece of advice to couples who are recently engaged, looking to plan their wedding?
Remember it’s about you two. You can get caught up worrying and trying to please everyone along the way but in the end of the day it’s just a celebration of you both and you should enjoy it!
